Widsets
On a strange day (06/06/06), www.widsets.com was released. I’ve been working on this service for the past five months, and I’m very excited that we finally moved from internal testing to a world-wide release. After five months of hard work its great to get some real user comments.

WidSets is basically widgets for your mobile phone, in a Web2.0 manner. It’s a clever service that lets you configure a set of widgets on the web, then automatically transfer them to your mobile phone. Currently most of the widgets are RSS-based, so you can enjoy the most important news and blogs on the road.

Go try it out and tell me what you think!

  • WidSets project really had caught my attention, first of all, because I am interested in any innovation in mobile, second because of a nice looking promo web-site.
My current question is – what make WidSets different from mobile RSS aggregator? This is not yet clear to me.

  • Well, currently WidSets is a RSS aggregator. The difference is in the way we’ve built the service. A widget is essentially a layout file, some code to display content and a server service that the widget uses. Now, RSS is only the beginning, be sure to check back once in a while. Eventually widgets will break out of the RSS world and become more like Apple widgets as we implement more services on the server-side and open the spec for custom widget development.

  • ..Someone showed me this the other day, didn’t know you guys were behind this. A rather interesting piece of work, congrats!
